DOCSIS MODEM

A DOCSIS modem is used with your cable provider. The COAX cable will connect to the back of the with a screw-on "F" connector. There will also be 4 Ethernet ports, & it will also be a Wireless Access Point.

DSL MODEM

A DSL modem will have one connection from the provider which will use an RJ-11 connector and and RJ-45 connector (Ethernet) for your Local Area Network.

 INTEL PROCESSORS

Intel processors are LGA (Land Grid Array), the pins are on the motherboard, not on the chipset.

Intel Processors:
  • Core: i3, i5, & i7. These are use on desktops & mobile devices.
  • Pentium: 32-bit CPU, not available anymore
  • Celeron: It's their budget brand
  • Atom: Designed for low-power devices (smartphones & tablets)
  • Xeon: Server & workstations

AMD PROCESSORS

  • AMD processors are PGA (Pin Grid Array), and the pins are on the bottom of the chipset.

AMD Processors:

  • Ryzen/Threadripper
  • Ryzen Mobile
  • Epyc: Server-class

ARM CPUs

ARM (Advanced RISC Machine) are used with smartphones & tablets.

RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computing)

COMPRESSION FORMATS

zip: supported by Windows, Linux, & Mac OS X

tar: used with gzip compression (tgz or .tar.gz) Windows, Linux, & macOS

rar: proprietary format used by the WinRAR program

7z: archive program using the open-source 7-Zip compression utility

gz: used with UNIX & Linux

iso: used with optical media (CDs, DVDs, & Blu-Ray Discs)

vhd/vmdk: used with Microsoft Hyper-V and with VMware virtual machines repectively.

dmg: disk image used by Apple macOS

Explain the troubleshooting methodology.

1. Identify the problem

·         Gather information

·         Duplicate the problem, if possible

·         Question users

·         Identify symptoms

·         Determine if anything has changed,

·         Approach multiple problems individually

Research knowledge base/Internet, if applicable

Establish a theory of probable cause

·         Question the obvious

·         Consider multiple approaches

·         Divide and conquer

Test the theory to determine the cause

·         Once the theory is confirmed [confirmed root cause]

·         Determine the next steps to resolve the problem

·         If the theory is not confirmed, establish a new theory or escalate

Establish a plan of action to resolve the problem and identify potential effects

Implement the solution or escalate as necessary

Verify full system functionality and, if applicable, implement preventive measures

Document findings/lessons learned, actions and outcomes
